Before you even step foot inside a charity shop, you can guarantee there'll be a selection of DVDs, 1,000-piece puzzles and old clothing inside. But now and then, you stumble across an item that's really worth splashing out on.
For one woman that item came in the form of a $6.99 (£5.24) earrings on a rail alongside an array of dress jewellery. After taking a closer look at the earrings and purchasing them, she decided to clean them up and take them for appraisal, believing they could be worth more than their budget-friendly price tag. On Reddit, she shared close-up images of the earrings alongside a receipt of their appraised value - showing it to be $4,682 (£3,445).
Sharing her delight over her discovery, she said: "The jeweller offered to buy them but I didn’t ask about price.
- 'I tried the new Amazon Alexa and my daughter was horrified'
- 'I heard squealing and thought my cat had kittens but truth left me horrified'
"I know you can only expect a fraction of the appraisal. But still makes them a pretty good find.
"I'm going to keep them for now. I want to wear them and see if they feel too heavy."
But this isn't the only goldmine she has stumbled across as she shared how she bought a $140 (£105) box at an estate sale - and when she opened it up, there was around $4,000 (£3,000) worth of gold inside.
Commenting on her charity shop find, one user said: "I saw your original post and was hoping that the appraiser would come back with a fabulous result!
"I hope that you will be able to wear them comfortably while you get your bad ass self out there for your next amazing find. What a fun distraction this has been for those of us lurking in the shadows."
Another user added: "Thanks to your last post, I was able to realise that my aunt had gifted me a diamond earring.
"As your pair looked similar to my one earring, I had to check it and it turned out to be from an old French jewellery shop. I had I thought it was just a normal earring but it was not!"
A third user said: "Amazing find. Keep in mind you could probably only sell them for $1,200. Jewellery always sells at retail and appraises for multiple times the resale value. But amazing find!"
One more user added: "Lord have mercy! That’s amazing. The most nondescript earrings too."
Another user said: "Nice! I have worn the same size diamond earrings for 20 years.
"They’re the only earrings I wear. I had my posts switched to screw backs. That way they cannot come off at all. Totally secure. 100% comfy."
A final user said: "That is so incredibly awesome. Such a pretty pair too. I'd wear those ever day!"
